Echoes of Gehenna

Gehenna is a realm of outer darkness. Shrouded in legend and mystically separated from us in the furthest cosmic nebulae (but at the same time accessible from our dreams), it manifests as a somber and menacing atmosphere of lingering coldness, ageless echoes of decay and bizarre reverted physical principles. A cursed place, mostly for the wicked but seldom and at the same time, one might also find fragile shimmers of hope and tranquillity between the clouds and stars.

With these visions in mind, Echoes of Gehenna was founded in October 2014 as a soloproject by Marcel Herrmann. It's intention was to assure a safe haven for his musical ideas and visions that would otherwise not fit to already existing projects. Though mainly focusing on solo-work, various guest-contributions of fellow musicians might occur in the future.

"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of the infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far."
-H.P. Lovecraft

Music

My musical influences come from atmospheric music in general and mostly consist of doom-metal, post-rock, atmospheric black-metal, ambient music and even some slightly progressive music. Bands like Swallow The Sun, Shape of Despair, Agalloch, Dead Can Dance and Darkspace surely have left an impression on me. For the further interested, I can only advise you to visit my last.fm-profile, as it has many more bands listed that I listen to.

In the following I present two songs that I have written for this project:

Hounds of Sheol

"Alas at last the omen;
With a powerful plague
all land's life was devoured
and all glory perished"

Dialogue With The Stars

"Upon this top the stars are watching
Out of their chilling pits unending
In ghastly visions they bring to me
Icy castles clad in frost"

Videos

In this section you can find a small selection of videos that I created. The first one is for Echoes of Gehenna and features the song Morpheus' Dream. The second one is a cover for Daylight Dies' Dismantling Devotion.

Morpheus Dream: An atmospheric track with vocals contributed by Markus Gundall (created in spring 2015).

Daylight Dies - Dismantling Devotion: A melancholic yet hopeful song dedicated to autumn and the dismantling of devotion (created in autumn 2014).

Future

"When I am gone, they must call me Shaitan, the Emperor of Gehenna."
-Frank Herbert
Up to the point that I am writing this, there are three songs for this project in a "completion phase". In the near future I am planning to write more songs and refine the existing ones. My main goal is to achieve an album-like release including artwork and professional production.
